In a situation where a city was collecting the junk at the curb, we worked with them to provide labels (pretty big and fluorescent) saying they wouldn’t take TVs and how to recycle them with us which their workers then applied.  I never heard how it worked…

Subject: TV Brainstorming

Hello HHW family,

Is your County experiencing the same problem we are having in Kalamazoo – residents placing their old TVs and computers at the curb for bulk trash pickup? I am looking for any suggestions and examples to work against this trend – PSAs, appeals to municipalities, appeals to trash haulers… We are fortunate enough to accept televisions from our residents free of charge, three days a week, but they are still ending up destined for the landfill. We even have a few concerned citizens who tour their neighborhood the week prior to pick up and bring us vanloads of TVs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
