Hello HHW family and mercury gurus at MDHHS,

Today I got to say “I’ve never seen this in all the nearly 19 years I’ve been doing HHW”. A customer brought in this panel from an old organ he dismantled to recycle the electronic components. Not only did it contain circuitry, but 3 mercury switches! They are roughly the size of a thermostat switch. Luckily this customer recognized what it was and knew to handle it carefully. One more thing for us to look out for or to caution our customers about if they call saying they have an old organ to get rid of…. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to speak to the customer so I am not sure what brand the organ was. A little searching online showed similar panels on a Hammond organ with a Leslie speaker.

Hope you are all well,
