For non-households, they can manage it under the Bodies of Dead Animals Act and send it for recycling using a Department of Agriculture licensed transporter and receiving location OR manage it to meet the liquid industrial by-product regulations then have it  recycled or solidified, then landfilled.  If they send it directly to an anaerobic digestion or biofuel manufacturer, it is excluded from being subject to the liquid industrial by-product regulations under Part 121, Section 12102a (f or n).  If they manage it under the Body of Dead Animals Act, it is also excluded from the definition of a liquid industrial by-product.  Site accepting liquid industrial by-product from non-households (liquid industrial by-product designated facilities) as of March 2016 also have to report annually about what they take in from off-site.  Note too that only generators of the waste, can transport their own liquid industrial by-product without first obtaining an Act 138 permit/registration.  Also, generally storage of these materials in bulk prompts a need for secondary containment under our water pollution incident prevention planning detailed in Chapter 4 of our guidebook.

Any questions on any of this, please give me a call. Thanks!

Most of the restaurants in Ann Arbor have commercial accounts for picking up their oil.

Hi All - Any great ideas of what/where restaurants are doing with their Cooking Oil/Fry Oil ?  We take residents cooking oil at HHW but what about the quantity for businesses?  Any comments or directions are great.

Thank you,

AJ
