Hi Steve – I tried to get setup in the Recycling Reporting System you mention below, but the questions were not answerable in our situation (3 county collection). If someone could contact me and walk me through the process so that it pertains to our situation it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,  Sorry I was unable to attend the HHW coordinator’s meeting on Monday. Here is an update on the DEQ’s efforts to promote and support recycling across our state.

First, a reminder that Part 175 (Recycling Reporting) annual reports for voluntary and mandatory reporters are due by November 15.  We encourage all entities to register with the Recycling Reporting system and to add their recycling related information to the Michigan Recycling Directory in the Recycle Search system.

We will be issuing the first annual recycling report as required under the Recycle Reporting Law at the end of January 2018.  We need your recycling activity data in the Recycle Reporting system so that we can accurately define the amount of recycling going on in our state.

We are in the final steps of creating a Recycled Material Market Directory (RMMD).  It should be live by the end of November. The RMMD is a business-to-business system created to support those businesses that have recyclable material available and to support those companies that are looking for recyclable or repurposed material generated from businesses.  Signing up for the RMMD system will be the same process that you use to sign up for the Michigan Recycling Directory.

All the systems can be accessed through links on our Recycling Reporting page at  www.michigan.gov/recyclingreporting.

Once the RMMD is complete we will be starting a promotion on recycling.  Those efforts include public education and outreach on how to use the Michigan Recycling Directory and the benefits of reporting recycling activities.

One bit of sad news; the company that supports the Recycling Directories told us that at this time they will not be modifying the system to allow for an event option.  We do have a work around that is available for those entities that want to promote collection events in their community.

As always, if you have any question about any of these activities please contact Amy Lafferty (Laffertya@michigan.gov) or myself.

Please attend the Waste and Material Management conference on December 13 & 14 in Novi.  The conference will cover a wide variety of topics on waste management, measurement and recycling.  http://www.michigan.gov/deq/0,4561,7-135-3308_3333-427871--,00.html

A sincere thank you for all that you do to support proper waste management and recycling in our state.

Hello HHW family,

Thank you to all of you that were able to attend Monday’s meeting and to Mike for securing our meeting room and bringing yummy treats!

Minutes are attached. Please let me know if you see an error or would like something added.

The next meeting is tentatively Monday, March 26, 2018 but location is to be determined. There is a lot of interest in touring other HHW program facilities and drawing more members from other areas. Rank each of these locations by how likely you are to attend the meeting if held there: 1 (yep, I’ll show up) to 4 (nope, not happening). Saginaw County was also suggested but their building is owned by MMWA and we’d have to get their permission putting that tour on hold for now. Please send replies directly to me  csfost@kalcounty.com by November 10th.

We had a great meeting and it was nice to catch up with some of you!
