I am the DEQ contact person for the scrap tires in the Upper Peninsula.  We have the big production scrap tires that are used in mining.  It is the same problem here.  Deerpath is one of the biggest scrap tire processors in Michigan and I don’t think that you’ll get a less expensive price elsewhere, but you could try. The mine ended up getting an “end user” permit for the tires and they use them for a soil erosion berm in a tailings basin.  Is there any type of gravel industry  -or some industry like that-  down there that perhaps could use them similarly?

I have had many inquiries about the disposal of agricultural tires.  This year we are using Deerpath for the Scrap Tire Grant Event and they charge a steep rate for ag. tires because they do not normally accept them and have to arrange for special equipment to process the ag tires.  Our grant is processed through South West Michigan Solid Waste Consortium, so we all use the same vendor.

My question is, can anyone recommend a vendor that has the equipment to process ag tires?  Or, recommend a vendor that charges a reasonable rate to accept ag. tires?  I have many residents with piles of ag tires and I am seeking resources to assist them.  Any input would be great!
